As part of our on-going statewide expansion we have now hired a Western North Carolina Outreach Coordinator. Our new Outreach Coordinator is working with UNC-Asheville to build a permanent on campus organization dedicated to reducing on and off campus violence. Our Outreach Coordinator is also working with the Henderson County Sheriff’s department to distribute gun safety information and trigger locks and will work in Asheville to address concerns of youth and gang violence.
As part of our on-going expansion NCGV will be holding two "Peace Toys For War Toys" Toy Exchange in Durham this year.
At our Toy Exchanges we invite parents to bring their preschool and elementary school, and even some middle school children to exchange their old “war toys” for brand-new “peace toys.” War toys are any type of violent toy, from toy guns and swords to violent video games. Peace toys are those that encourage creative, cooperative, nonviolent activities.
