Ban Military-Style Assault Weapons

As you likely know by now, the Florida high school shooter, the Las Vegas shooter, the Orlando shooter, the Sandy Hook shooter and many others, used military-style assault weapon. These weapons are designed to kill as many people as possible as efficiently as possible. They should not be available to civilians.

It is well past time for the Congress the United States to act.

Please tell our Senators to ban military-style assault weapons now. Add your name to the petition today.

Dear Senators Burr and Tillis:

Yet again the nation faces a tragic massacre helped along by easy and inappropriate access to military-style assault weapons. This time it is 17 dead at a Parkland, Florida high school. Before that it was 58 victims in Las Vegas, 26 killed in Sutherland Springs.

Military-style semi-automatic assault weapons are designed to efficiently kill as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time available. There is absolutely no reason for assault rifles, assault pistols, and assault shotguns to be sold on the civilian market.

Congress did not act after Aurora, Sandy Hook, Orlando, Las Vegas, Southerland Springs and many other devastating mass shootings. It’s high time Congress stopped sacrificing lives and work to address this crisis before even more lives are lost.

We ask that you act now to prevent more carnage by supporting an effective ban on the civilian use of these weapons. Military-style assault weapons, high capacity magazines and bump stocks do not belong in our homes, our streets, our schools, our malls, our movie theaters, our places of worship, or in any of our other gathering places. It is well past time to act but it’s not too late to spare more Americans from death at the hands of killers using these weapons of mass destruction.

Thank you.

My name is Charlotte. I am a teacher. I teach art, but let’s be real if you think that’s all I do that’s a joke. My job is to teach sharing, how to tie your shoes, not to pick your nose, how to sneeze, how to use scissors, hold a pencil, write your name and wash your hands…. What my job is NOT…. It is NOT my job to protect anyone from mass shootings. It’s yours… as a lawmaker.

I would do ANYTHING to protect my little people. ANYTHING.

If I am expected to risk my life to stand between a mass shooter and my children… I expect you to as well. So do me a favor and take guns out of the hands of people like Nikolas Cruz and let me do my job.

You have never been in my position during a school lock down. You have never hidden with scared five year olds in a storage closet, and hidden children in bathrooms. And you will never have to, but I do… and that SHOULD NOT BE NORMAL.

It is time for you to do something.

My husband deserves to know I will be safe at school. He should never have to worry that one day I could lose my life in my classroom. My students families deserve the same.

Wouldn’t you want to be certain your baby’s life wouldn’t be taken while they were trying to learn and grow into a strong, beautiful person?

    Then please, try something.

Semi-Automatic weapons should be illegal to everyone. Background checks should be in depth for the ownership of all weapons.

I feel strongly that NO 18 year old with no training or background or background check should be able to carry a hidden loaded weapon in public.

Schools should also focus energy on our children’s mental health.

I cannot change this, but you can.

I am a 54 year old republican with a 10th grader in public school. Please eliminate assault style weapons and use background checks that are through and involve substantial time to complete. We have to start somewhere or there will be mass killings every other day. Known criminals are not committing these group killings, everyday people are. Maybe we should start protesting where these guns are being sold. Guns should be for hunting and in some cases for protection, but they shouldn’t be easy to obtain quickly and if you break laws or are a threat to society, your should be taken away by the rest of us. And for that we need a good list of those who have them.

Kurt J. Olson - there is no reason assault weapons should be sold to the public in general and certainly they should not be sold to anyone under the age of 21. If there are to be sold, special training (i.e., prior active military experience, permits and registries) should be required. Conceal carry also should be limited to persons over the age of 21 and who have completed special training.

As a Head of School I live daily concerned about gun violence in schools. It is simply shameful that our country has allowed school shootings to happen repeatedly and no effective action has taken place. It is now overdue time for ALL loving, caring parents and educators to rise in one voice and send the clear message to all our politicians. They must: ban ALL warfare weapons, get the NRA out of their wallets, increase the age to own a gun, develop quality services free of cost for children with mental disorders, enforce in the 50 states strong/effective background checks for those who want to purchase guns.

The things we are asking are so reasonable. We’re not asking to take away people’s guns, but simply to act like responsible adults. If we can register cars, why not guns?

You know a majority of Americans do not want assault type rifles in our public domain. These type guns are true killing machines. Neither is it wanted to take away citizens sporting or handguns. These are not self conflicting policies as the NRA would argue. Please do the right thing. Legislate to ban these weapons.
