The gun industry has recklessly manufactured AR-15 style handguns capable of using armor piercing ammunition. Armor piercing handgun ammunition has been banned since 1986. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) recently developed “a framework that will apply to requests seeking a determination that certain projectiles qualify for “sporting purpose” exemption” which would ban on 5.56 mm (.223) SS109 and M855 “green tip” armor-piercing ammunition to better protect our law enforcement officers.

Thank you for commenting on this important proposal.
Dear Mr. Jones,
We think that it is really important to protect our law enforcement officers and feel that this ban that you have proposed would go a long way to doing that. Banning the "green tip" armor-piercing ammunition would not ban the AR-15 assault rifles since there are other bullets that can be used in these guns.
We support your new framework 100%.
