ASK: Is There A Gun Where My Child Plays?

The choice to keep a gun in your home is a personal decision. However, even if you don't have a gun in your home, you cannot assume your children aren't at risk of an accidental shooting. On average there is a gun in 1 in 3 homes in this country-- this means if your child has three friends one them is likely to live in a home with a gun. In North Carolina, a study found that 50% of gun owners with small children do NOT lock their guns and 36% leave their weapons unlocked and loaded.

Children are curious by nature: if they find a gun, they are likely to play with them

NCGV supports the ASK (Asking Saves Kids) program which encourages parents to ask if there is a gun in the homes where their children play and how parents store their guns.

Need Help? Contact NCGV for suggestions on how to ask parents about guns in their homes.

Spread The Word: The ASK program is an easy way to protect North Carolina's children. Help us spread the word by presenting to your school's PTA, your neighborhood association, or other local groups.
