President Obama is taking Executive Action to narrow the gunshow loophole and enforce existing laws on the books. The action to clarify who "engaged in the business" of selling guns (and who is therefore required to perform background checks) will greatly improve the background check system and save lives.

Thank you for taking action to reduce gun violence to narrow the gun show loophole by enforcing laws that are already on the books and working to clarify who is “engaged in the business” of selling guns and who is therefore required to perform background checks.
Because of the voices of Americans across the country, including many of our courageous elected officials who signed letters urging this action, the work of gun violence prevention advocates, and because of your decision to act, our families will be safer.
We know that this won't stop all shootings, but it's a big step! Continuing to organizing locally for state-based action will help finish the job, and you can count on me to continue to advocate for progress.
We share our prayers and thoughts with Newtown, Connecticut following the tragic events that unfolded at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. The unbelievable massacre which claimed the lives of 20 young students and six adults.
We must offer more than prayers and sorrow. Have we reached a point where our children cannot attend school without fear of being gunned down by a homicidal maniac who has obtained easy access to firearms? As mothers and fathers this simply cannot be acceptable; cannot be our way of life.
Today, American families must demand immediate action by our elected leaders to reform our gun laws. If elected officials cannot find their voices now and call for change—if NRA campaign contributions and threats continue to dictate their decision-making, taking priority over the preservation of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness—what will it say about them?
Moreover, if we allow them to remain silent, what will it say about us?122 pledges

We need our political leaders to be strong and do the right thing, no matter the opposition.
We need you to build a safer North Carolina and America.
In 2011 the “Castle Doctrine” law went into effect in North Carolina. This law allows anyone to use "deadly
force" if they feel threatened without the fear of civil or criminal accountability. This law extended far past someone's "castle" and includes their car and office.
On February 26, 2012 this country experienced the tragic death of Trayvon Martin, the teenager shot and killed while armed with nothing more than a bag of skittles. A similar law in Florida protected Trayvon’s shooter for far too long.
Yet Trayvon was not the first (or last) victim of these vigilante laws. Since passing in 2005, the number of “justifiable” deaths has almost tripled to an average of 35 a year, an increase of 283% from 2005-2010. In fact, Florida's Stand Your Ground Law been used to free gang members, drug dealers and even people who shot their victims in the back.
In South Carolina since enacting its “Shoot First” law, so-called ‘justifiable homicides’ increased in the state -- 45% compared to the four years prior. It's not too late to prevent this tragedy and injustice in North Carolina.104 signatures
Recognizing the impending threat to North Carolina families several brave legislators have attempted to pass legislation to amend or repeal NC's Castle Doctrine. To date these efforts have been defeated by extremist lawmakers beholden to the gun industry.
